Report: Lakers keeping an eye on the Collin Sexton trade

CITY OF SALT LAKE – Reports say that the Los Angeles Lakers want to trade for Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton before the NBA trade deadline.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN said that the Lakers want to improve their backcourt and named Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones and Utah Jazz forward Sexton as possible targets.

"You can see that the Lakers are looking for help at point guard," Dave McMenamin wrote. "Collin Sexton, 25 years old, a professional athlete.

He is more of a combo guard and scores about 17 points and four assists per game. His lawyer, Rich Paul, also works with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so he has ties to the Lakers.

After playing for the Jazz in mid-December, Sexton has become an important part of their mix over the last month.

The Jazz are 15-4 in their last 19 games with Sexton starting, and they have gotten back into the Western Conference playoff race. This happened at the same time that Lauri Markannen came

came back from a leg injury. As a starter, Sexton scores 21.9 points and helps out 4.8 times per game. This has probably made him more valuable on the trade market.

In recent years, the Jazz and Lakers have traded with each other a lot. The Jazz sent Patrick Beverley to the Lakers in the summer of 2022 in exchange for Talen Horton-Tucker.
