U.S. capital Madison- A Republican effort to remove Wisconsin's top impartial elections officer from office is being treated as "a big show for the cameras" and will be completely disregarded, stated Thursday by the GOP majority leader of the Assembly.
In light of her role in the 2020 election that President Joe Biden won, some Republican politicians, including the head of the state's senate, have demanded the impeachment of Meagan Wolfe, the administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission.
Even though they subsequently acknowledged it, the Senate's October decision to remove Wolfe was merely symbolic and had no real impact on the matter.
Janel Brandtjen, a state representative, has submitted an impeachment resolution in the Assembly. Brandtjen was one of just five co-sponsors as of Thursday. To be approved, it needs fifty votes.
On Tuesday, Brandtjen futilely sought to be acknowledged as a speaker in an effort to secure a vote on her motion. The discredited 2020 election conspiracy theorist Brandtjen claimed Republican leaders as becoming "Administrator Wolfe's PR team."
Neither the committee nor the majority of the Assembly will vote on Brandtjen's plan, according to Assembly Majority Leader Tyler August, who made the announcement during a news conference prior to Thursday's session.
In order to bring a bill or resolution to the floor, August said that the building has been using the same approach for decades. "And that's the method we'll keep using." Brandtjen can forward the issue to the next vote, according to August, provided she gets enough backing.
The truth, though, is that she doesn't, August said. Rather than scheming and putting on a show for the cameras, our caucus is intent on getting down to business. And it is her sole area of interest.
